What is Campus for Christ?

Campus for Christ Story

The organization was founded in 1951 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), by William R. "Bill" Bright. Campus Crusade for Christ has expanded into numerous ministries beyond its primary focus on universities. Our mission is to show people how to know and experience God's love and His plan for their lives.

In the 1970s, Campus Crusade for Christ began establishing a presence in Francophone Africa, first in Mali and then in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire).

In 1996, Bill Bright received the Templeton Award for Advancement in Religion and donated the prize money ($1.1 million) to causes promoting fasting and prayer.

Steve Douglass became the organization's president in 2013.

In 2011, the organization, formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ International, adopted the name Cru in the United States. Other countries have adopted this name, but many others have retained their respective names: Agape, Campus Crusade for Christ, Great Commission Movements, Vida Estudiantil, Life Ministry, or Power to Change.

Campus Crusade for Christ is present in more than 196 countries worldwide and has over 20,000 missionaries.

Campus Statement of Faith for Christ

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, the infallible written word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe it was solely, verbally, and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and was written without inherent error in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority on all matters it addresses.

We accept those points of doctrinal teaching on which, historically speaking, there has been general agreement among all true Christians. Because of the special calling of our movement, we desire to allow freedom of conviction on other matters of doctrine, provided that all interpretations are based on the Bible alone and that none of these interpretations results in hindering the ministry to which God has called us.

We explicitly affirm our belief in the basic biblical teachings, as follows: Click here to read more.
